Paxten Aksamit from Tongue River Inks for Hoops at Lawrence University
Paxten Aksamit enjoyed a terrific prep basketball career at Tongue River High School. Now, the former Eagle will take her talents to Lawrence University. Aksamit was a three-time all-state and all-conference selection on the basketball court. She helped Tongue River to back-to-back state championships in 2A girls’ basketball. Paxten lettered all four years in basketball at TRHS.
Aksamit averaged 10 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game for the 2A state champs. She helped Tongue River to a 25-1 record in the 2024-25 season. Aksamit made 29 three-point field goals on 30 percent shooting beyond the arc. Paxten shot 39 percent from the field and 61 percent from the free-throw line last season.
As a junior, Aksamit helped TRHS to a 24-3 record and a 2A girls’ basketball state title. She averaged 9.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. Paxten made a team-best 37 triples on 27 percent shooting from deep. She shot 35 percent overall from the floor and 53 percent at the charity stripe.
In the 2022-23 season as a sophomore, Aksamit averaged 10.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. She made 47 three-point field goals and shot 34 percent behind the arc. Aksamit helped Tongue River to an 18-9 record. They fell in the 2A girls’ consolation game at the state tournament.
Aksamit also played in all 29 games as a freshman in the 2021-22 season. She averaged 4.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Paxten made 14 triples during that first prep season. The Eagles were 12-17 that year.
She was selected to play for the North Team in next month’s Wyoming Coaches Association North-South All-Star game.

Aksamit also played volleyball and track and field at Tongue River. She was a two-year starter and three-year letter-winner as a DS on the volleyball court for the Eagles. Aksamit was a three-year qualifier for the state track meet. In 2025, Paxten ran a leg on the Eagles’ runner-up 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays at the outdoor track state championships. She also ran in the 400 meters and threw the shot put.
Lawrence University is in Appleton, WI. The Vikings compete at the NCAA Division III level and are members of the Midwest Conference.
