One of the more anticipated match-ups in 4A girls basketball was in Gillette on Friday as #1 Cheyenne East met #3 Campbell County. There wasn't much scoring for either team in the first quarter as Campbell County led 4-2 after one. But East exploded for 17 points in the 2nd quarter and another 17 in the 3rd quarter to win this battle 47-34. The Thunderbirds got 16 points from Bradie Schlabs and she had been averaging 13 points a game. The Camels were led by Lauren Kubacher with 16.

East finished the road trip on Saturday with a 59-35 win over Thunder Basin to get to 18-2 and Campbell County earned a split with a 61-38 win over Cheyenne Central. The Camels sport a mark of 12-6.

In the boys' match-up, Cheyenne East handed a short-handed Campbell County team a 70-55 loss with the Thunderbirds taking a 6-point lead after one quarter and outscored the Camels by 12 in the 3rd quarter. Drew Jackson led East with 16 and he has been averaging 18 points per game. Campbell County was led by Rylan Robertson with 18 and Tatum Sorenson chipped in 15.

Cheyenne East came into the weekend's action ranked 3rd in 4A and lost to Thunder Basin on Saturday 51-41 to drop to 15-5 on the year. The Camels lost to Cheyenne Central on Saturday 68-42 so they sit at 5-13 on the season.
