Meeteetse senior Dace Bennett will continue his football career in college after recently signing with the University of Montana Western.

Bennett was a two-time all-state and all-conference selection for the Longhorns in 6-man football. Now, he’ll make the transition to the 11-man game.

The senior played quarterback and defensive back at Meeteetse High School. He led Class 1A 6-man with 3,116 yards of total offense last fall. He averaged 346.2 yards per game and was responsible for 44 touchdowns. Bennett ran for 1,193 yards and 19 TDs. He threw for 1,863 yards and 25 more touchdowns with only six interceptions. Bennett also finished ninth in defensive points with 21.4 per game. He had 84 total tackles with five tackles for loss. Bennett recovered two fumbles, intercepted five passes, had nine pass breakups, and one defensive TD.

Bennett had the top two single-game performances in the 2021 season and three of the top five. He accounted for 665 yards of total offense and 10 TDs against Dubois on Sept. 17. Bennett also had 475 all-purpose yards and accounted for six touchdowns versus Bridger, MT on Sept. 3.

Meeteetse finished the 2021 season with a 5-4 record. They lost to eventual state champion Little Snake River by one point in the semifinals, 47-46.

As a junior, Bennett averaged 275.5 yards of total offense per game. He finished with 2,755 all-purpose yards and was responsible for 53 touchdowns. Bennett led the Longhorns to an 8-2 record and a runner-up finish in Class 1A 6-man.

Before he joins the Bulldogs program, the 6-0, 190-pound senior will play in the annual Wyoming Shrine Bowl in Casper and is part of the Wyoming-Nebraska 6-Man All-Star Shootout. Both are in June of this year.

Bennett also played basketball and participated in track and field at Meeteetse High School. He was an all-state and two-time all-conference player on the basketball court over the last two seasons for the Longhorns. He also ran a leg on the Class 1A state champion boys’ 4x100 meter relay for Meeteetse in 2021. Bennett was third in both the long jump and triple jump and finished sixth in the 100-meters last spring.

The University of Montana Western is in Dillon, MT. The Bulldogs compete as an NAIA school in collegiate athletics.
