The fifth stop on the WyoPreps Preseason Basketball Tour was in Dubois to visit the Rams’ two programs.

Like a few other schools, one team is coming off a highly successful season, while the other is looking to build toward better results.

The Dubois Rams enjoyed a terrific 2021-22 season. They made a run to the title game last March but fell a little short of Upton. The Rams return three starters, including an all-state player, but they lost a pair of all-state players, as well.

With that experience coming back, the Dubois boys are poised to be in the mix again this season.

Head coach Kyle Miller and senior Ryan Wells (returning all-state player) was kind enough to visit with WyoPreps about the upcoming season.

Coach Miller knows the team dynamic is different with a new season. He discussed how preparation is going, what he’s emphasized early on, how he sees Class 1A boys’ basketball, and more.

Wells touched on how practice is going, some of the adjustments they’re making with a different roster, still dealing with high expectations, and more.

The Dubois girls’ team is transitioning to a new coach. Former boys’ assistant Mike Marcus is taking over the program.

The Rams were 5-14 last year and did not make the state tournament. They return only three players from last season’s roster but have a large group of freshmen trying to help with the turnaround.

Dubois will be led by senior Maren Baker, who averaged nearly 17 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game. She was an all-conference selection last season.

WyoPreps spoke to Coach Marcus, Ms. Baker, and freshman Kenzy Day about the upcoming season.

Coach Marcus likes how his team is preparing for the new season, doesn’t feel caught up in the transition since he’s been around the team while coaching on the boys’ staff, knows it’s a young group but feels they’ve got potential, and more.

Baker and Day are excited about the new season. They discussed practice, adjusting to a new coach, the team’s lack of experience but also having young talent, and more.

Both Dubois teams are slated to open the 2022-23 season at the Carbon County Classic in Encampment and Hanna this weekend.
