Emma Gonzales of Burns Continues to Excel in Distance Running

Emma Gonzales from Burns had a productive track meet in Cheyenne on Friday with a victory in the 1600 meter run and a 2nd place finish in the 800. She ran 5:40.17 in some gusty conditions to win the 1600 and clocked in at 2.30.07 in the 800. At the 3A State Outdoor Track Meet back in May, Gonzales placed 2nd in the 3200 in 11.58.10, 6th in the 1600 in 5.32.63, and 11th in the 800 meters in 2.30.28.

At the State Indoor Meet in 2022, Gonzales found the top of the podium with a 1st place finish in the 1600 in 5.16.89 along with a 2nd place finish in the 3200. She also has displayed substantial improvement in cross country with a 24th place finish at the 3A State Meet in 2019, 8th in 2020, and 3rd in 2021 in 19.49.75.

She will continue her athletic career at South Dakota State and we caught up with her after winning the 1600 meter run in Cheyenne on Friday.
