It’s back to the 2A West Conference for the WyoPreps Game of the Week, small-school edition. A top-five showdown is in the Bridger Valley as No. 5 Cokeville visits co-top-ranked Mountain View on Friday afternoon. Both teams won their conference opener last week. In a league with no weeks off, both teams realize how critical this game is in the standings.

The Buffalos won at No. 3 Lovell last Friday, 42-35. Justus Platts had 444 all-purpose yards and was responsible for all six Mountain View touchdowns. Cokeville won a slugfest of a game at home over Lyman, 13-8, last week. That was the Panthers’ first win of the season.

Mountain View has victories over 3A Green River, Rich County (UT), and the Bulldogs. Cokeville lost to West Jefferson, ID in their opener two weeks ago, 27-7. They bounced back last week against the Eagles.

WyoPreps previewed the game with Mountain View head coach Brent Walk and Cokeville head coach Marty Linford. Coach Walk spoke about his team’s 3-0 start, Justus Platts’s big game at Lovell, another leader who has stepped up this season, what he sees in Cokeville, and how controlling the clock and getting defensive stops are keys for his team. Coach Linford discussed their 1-1 start, the improvement he saw from game one to game two, some of their key personnel, facing a very good Mountain View team, defending Platts, and how their offense is a key to keeping him off the field.

Mountain View comes in with the No. 1 offense in Class 2A. They average 386 yards and 42 points per game. Defensively, the Buffalos are not in the top 10. They allow 284 yards and 16 points per game. Platts leads 2A in rushing at almost 119 yards per game. He also throws for 219 yards per game. Kolby Roitz and Brockton Walker are two of his favorite targets. They are both in the top nine of receiving in 2A. Roitz is the Buffalos’ top defensive player at 16.3 defensive points per game.

Cokeville has the No. 5 rushing attack at 146 yards per game. On defense, the Panthers allow 238 yards and 17.5 points per game. Justin Moyes is their leading rusher at 86 yards per game and has 2 TDs. Kayson Walker leads Cokeville on defense at 16 defensive points per game.
