WyoPreps Preseason Football Tour 2024: Rocky Mountain Grizzlies [VIDEO]
The Rocky Mountain Grizzlies look to be a contender in the Class 1A 9-Man division in 2024. After transitioning with a new coach last year, the Grizzlies still made the playoffs, but with some experience back, they look to take the next step.
Rocky Mountain was 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the 1A 9-Man West Conference in 2023. They lost in the first round of the playoffs at Lingle-Ft. Laramie, 21-14. The Grizzlies struggled with turnovers and putting points on the scoreboard. They were No. 10 in rushing at 150 yards per game and ninth in passing at 114 yards per game. Rocky Mountain finished No. 8 in total offense at 264 yards and averaged only 23.3 points per game. Defensively, they allowed 289 yards and 34 points per game and had a negative turnover margin. The Grizzlies had a top-four pass defense but gave up close to 200 yards per game on the ground, which was tenth and an area they want to improve.
Triffen Jolley anchors the Rocky Mountain defense. He was sixth last season in defensive points and finished with 84 tackles. The offense is guided by Lafe Files, who was sixth in passing last year. Jolley, Files, Hayden Wambeke, and coach Jessee Wilson previewed the 2024 season with WyoPreps on our preseason tour last week.
The Grizzlies open at home on Sept. 6 against Lusk. They also host Wyoming Indian and Greybull. Rocky Mountain will play Greybull (non-conference game), Big Piney, Shoshoni, and Wind River on the road.
