New Faces and a Class 4A Tie Shake Up WyoPreps Football Poll
Three new teams entered the new WyoPreps Coaches and Media Football Poll released on Wednesday by WyoPreps.com. Sundance, Pinedale, and Laramie debuted inside the top five of their respective classes. The bigger surprise was a tie for first in Class 4A. Riverside also returned to the top five in Class 1A 6-man.
WYOPREPS COACHES AND MEDIA FOOTBALL POLL IN WEEK 4
Class 2A featured the most movement behind the top two. Big Horn was a unanimous selection for No. 1 with all 23 first-place votes. Mountain View remained a solid second. Cokeville climbed up two spots to third after their narrow home victory against Thermopolis, while Pinedale jumped into the rankings at No. 4. The Bobcats dropped two spots to fifth.
Both the 9-man and 6-man divisions had the same change. A new team at No. 5.
Burlington was the unanimous pick for the top spot in 6-man. The Huskies earned all 17 first-place votes. Little Snake River was a near-unanimous choice for second. Encampment held onto third by three points in the voting. Casper Christian stayed in the fourth spot, and the Riverside Rebels came back in at No. 5 after their win over H.E.M. last weekend.
In 9-man, Rocky Mountain held the top spot for the third straight week with 11 of the 21 first-place votes. The top four teams received at least one vote for the top position. Pine Bluffs, Greybull, and Saratoga remained second, third, and fourth. The Sundance Bulldogs checked in at No. 5. They are off to a 2-1 start in their first solo season since 2011. The Bulldogs are also 2-0 in conference games
Class 3A had the same top five as last week. Star Valley was No. 1 with all but one first-place vote. The Braves finished with what might be a poll record 417 points in the voting. Cody was second. Jackson kept the third position. Evanston held onto fourth, and Riverton remained fifth.
Class 4A had a tie at the top between Sheridan and Natrona County. The Broncs received more first-place votes, 15-to-10, but Sheridan was left off one ballot, which has happened before. Natrona County has beaten three ranked teams this season, and that impressed enough voters to move the Mustangs into a tie with 330 points in the poll. Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne East kept their spots at three and four. The Laramie Plainsmen joined the top five at No. 5. They’re off to a 3-1 start for the first time in 21 years.
