With a veteran group returning, expectations are high for the Powell Panthers entering the 2024 high school football season. They lost a trio of key starters from last year but return three all-state players, another key two-way starter, and a lot along the offensive and defensive lines. Powell is ranked third in the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Preseason Football Poll. Can they climb over the top of two conference rivals?

The Panthers were 7-3 in 2023. They went 3-2 in the 3A West Conference. Powell lost in the first round of the playoffs at Buffalo, 35-21. Their other two losses were to state champion Star Valley and runner-up Cody by six points combined. The Panthers were in the top three in offense and defense last year. They had a balanced attack that averaged 387 yards and 38.2 points per game. Defensively, they were No. 2 in Class 3A and allowed only 235 yards and 13.2 points per game. Cody Seifert anchors the ground attack. He ran for 81 yards per game and scored 12 TDs. Returning all-state linebacker Keona Wisniewski ranked third in 3A in defensive points. He made 91 tackles a year ago, which included 18 tackles for loss. Teammate Trevon Abraham added 72 tackles last year.

Wisniewski, Abraham, Doug Bettger, and head coach Chase Kistler joined WyoPreps to preview Powell’s 2024 season before a recent practice during our preseason tour.
