More Shakeup in the Smaller Classes of the WyoPreps Football Poll
A new No. 1 and five new teams entered the new WyoPreps Coaches and Media Football Poll released on Wednesday. All five classifications had at least one small change. There were two ties in the rankings. Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Big Horn, Star Valley, and Sheridan kept their No. 1 position.
After a blowout victory at home over the defending champs, Little Snake River charged to the top of the Class 1A 6-man poll as a unanimous No. 1. The Rattlers received all 16 first-place votes. Encampment climbed two spots into second. Burlington fell to third, and Riverside slid one place to fourth. Dubois and Meeteetse debuted in the rankings in a tie for fifth.
The Doggers of Lingle-Ft. Laramie got all but one first-place vote and stayed atop the Class 1A 9-man poll. Pine Bluffs and Southeast tied for second, as both moved up the rankings. Two teams made their debut. Lusk was fourth after a big road win at Rocky Mountain, and Wright snuck into the poll at No. 5.
The Big Horn Rams topped Class 2A. They earned 13 of the 20 first-place votes. The other seven went to Mountain View, who remained second. Lovell and Worland held onto third and fourth, respectively. Lyman re-entered the poll in fifth.
In Class 3A, Star Valley was a unanimous pick for No. 1. The Braves garnered all 24 first-place votes. Cody got all but one second-place vote, and Broncs stayed in second. Douglas moved up two spots to third. That pushed Riverton down to fourth, but the Wolverines were only three points back in the voting. Powell rounded out the top five.
There was only one slight change in Class 4A this week. It was no tie. Sheridan held the No. 1 spot with 18 of the 19 first-place votes. Cheyenne East was second, and Natrona County was alone in third. The Mustangs were only six points back of the Thunderbirds. Campbell County was fourth, and Rock Springs held onto fifth.
