Cheyenne Central Climbs to No. 1 in Final WyoPreps Softball Rankings

The top of the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Softball Poll finally changed. Cheyenne Central took over the No. 1 spot in the final rankings of the season by a mere three points. Despite four fewer first-place votes, the Indians finished with 306 points in the voting compared to Campbell County at 303. The Camels got 13 of the 24 first-place ballots, but they received fewer second-place votes.

WYOPREPS FINAL SOFTBALL RANKINGS OF 2026

Central clinched the Southeast Conference title last week with two more wins over rival Cheyenne East. The Indians garnered nine first-place votes, but the 13 seconds was what helped them to the top position. Campbell County dropped its final three games in the regular season. It cost the Camels the top seed at this week’s North Regional Tournament, which they host. The rest of the top five stayed the same. Cheyenne East held third. The Thunderbirds obtained votes for second through fifth. Thunder Basin was fourth again and received one nod for the top spot. The Bolts tied the Camels for first in the Northeast Conference and earned the top seed on a tiebreaker. Southwest Conference regular-season champion Laramie maintained its spot in fifth. The Lady Plainsmen have won eight in a row.

Sheridan picked up one vote for No. 1. The Broncs also got votes in the other four spots. They have won seven in a row entering the postseason. Northwest Conference champion Cody was one of three other teams that received votes.

All Class:

1 = Central

2 = Campbell County

3 = East

4 = Thunder Basin

5 = Laramie

The two regional tournaments are in Gillette and Rock Springs on Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16. Four teams from each bracket will qualify for next week’s state tournament in Cheyenne.
