Here is the 2023-24 WyoPreps Preseason Boys Basketball Rankings
Only one defending champ starts the 2023-24 season at No. 1 in the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Preseason Boys Basketball Poll.
On Monday, the first rankings of the new season were released. WyoPreps gave every head coach and several media members around the state a chance to vote in the preseason poll.
The top-ranked teams are Cheyenne East, Douglas, Tongue River, and Upton. That means two programs, Douglas and Tongue River, have both their girls and boys at the top.
The Upton Bobcats top the 1A boys’ poll. They were runner-up last season and received eight of the 13 first-place votes. Cokeville is second and earns a pair of first-place votes. Defending champion Burlington checks in at No. 3 and gets three first-place votes. Saratoga and Farson-Eden are fourth and fifth.
The Eagles of TRHS are the preseason pick in 2A. They garnered nine of the 14 first-place votes. Defending champion Pine Bluffs follows in second. Big Horn is third, and Wright is fourth. There is a tie for fifth between Greybull and Wyoming Indian. Six more schools earn at least one vote.
In 3A, Douglas starts at the top of the rankings. The Bearcats get 12 of the 18 first-place votes. Powell is second and receives five first-place votes. Buffalo has a majority of the third-place votes and is in that third spot. Defending champion Worland is fourth, while Lovell is fifth. Seven more teams get a vote in the preseason poll.
The only defending champ that starts the new boys’ season at No. 1 is Cheyenne East in Class 4A. The Thunderbirds got nine of the 16 first-place votes. Runner-up Laramie follows in second. Then, it’s Riverton, Campbell County, and Cheyenne Central.
