Hulett Looks to Reload in New 6-Man Season [VIDEO]
The 2022 season could turn into an interesting one for the Hulett Red Devils. They lost some top talent, but the way last year ended, it might be enough motivation.
Hulett went undefeated through the regular season and won all four of their conference games by an average of 56.6 points per game. They lost at home in the first round of the playoffs by seven points to Dubois.
The Red Devils lost two all-state and four all-conference players. They return two all-conference players in Kade Smith and Hunter Reilly. With a few other players back, will that be enough to compete at the top of the Class 1A-6 Man division?
WyoPreps spoke with Smith, Reilly, and MJ Ulmer about the upcoming season on our eighth stop in the Preseason Football Tour. They discussed how the end of 2021 has spurred them on, how practice is going, what the focus is, and more. We also chatted with head coach Derrick ‘Boz’ Backen about the outlook for the new season.
Another adjustment for Hulett and the rest of the 6-man football teams is the switch into North and South Conferences instead of East-West. The Red Devils will be in the North Conference with Burlington, Kaycee, Meeteetse, Midwest, and Ten Sleep.
Backen is in his eighth season at the helm of the Hulett football program. Five of the previous seven have resulted in a playoff appearance, which included a couple of semifinals.
The Red Devils will make their season debut on Saturday, Sept. 3, versus Dubois. The game will be on a neutral field at Ten Sleep.
