Laramie Aims for Another 4A Volleyball State Title
Laramie has been as good as it gets in Wyoming High School Volleyball with 3 state titles in the last 4 seasons in 4A. A year ago, the Plainsmen went 33-1 en route to the top of the podium, winning 2 classic battles at the State Tournament. They beat Cody in 5 sets in the semi-finals and then defeated Thunder Basin in 5 sets for the championship.
They have a pair of returning All-State selections in junior Tessa Dodd and senior Michon Sailors. Both are tremendous hitters; Dodd is 6-4 and has verbally committed to attend the University of Oregon. Sailors is 6-2 and she has committed to Fresno State. That 1-2 punch makes life difficult for all their opponents.
At the Gillette Tournament over the weekend, Laramie won all 6 of their matches and took 1st place in the gold bracket. They defeated a pair of quality 3A schools in Big Horn and Wheatland and downed Rapid City Stevens, Kelly Walsh, and Thunder Basin on the 2nd day of competition. Both the KW and TB matches were super-competitive, going 3 sets each.
We chatted with Dodd and Sailors after their match with Rapid City Stevens in Gillette. It's been so far so good.
