McPherson ended up being a four-time state champion in the 50 freestyle as she won it as a freshman in 23.53. In her freshman campaign, she took 3rd in the 100 at the 4A state meet and her 200 medley relay team took 2nd and the 400 free relay 3rd.

She earned All-American status 6 times in her prep career and spent plenty of time in the pool with the Laramie Swim Club.
