
Max Alexander of Laramie is Heading East for Football at Amherst
Laramie senior Max Alexander will further his football career after signing at Amherst College in Massachusetts. Alexander was a three-year starter and letter-winner for the Plainsmen on the gridiron. He was an all-state and two-time all-conference selection at wide receiver. Alexander was second-team all-state as a junior. He holds school records for the most catches and yards in a career, most receptions in a single season, and most receiving yards per game in a single season.
Last fall in the 2024 season, Alexander led Class 4A with a school record 63 catches. Those went for 775 yards and seven touchdowns. He averaged 77.5 yards per game, which was second-best in 4A. Max averaged 12.3 yards per catch with a long reception of 45 yards (TD). He added five punt returns for 21 yards with a long of 18. Alexander had 14 kickoff returns for 284 yards, an average of 20.3 yards per return. His best kick return was 36 yards. He even threw a TD pass of 23 yards. His 1,199 all-purpose yards (119.9 per game) ranked eighth in Class 4A. On defense, Alexander had 30 tackles, which included one tackle for loss. He finished with two interceptions, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups. Laramie had a 2-8 record in the 2024 season.
In 2023, Alexander became the first wide receiver in school history to lead 4A in receiving yards per game at 86.7. He had 46 receptions for 780 yards and five TDs. Alexander averaged 17 yards per catch with a long of 51 yards. On defense, Max made 39 tackles with two tackles for loss. He had two interceptions, returned one for a touchdown, and four pass breakups. The Plainsmen went 1-8 that season.
Alexander made nine catches for 54 yards as a sophomore in 2022. He started at defensive back and made 16 tackles for a 2-8 Laramie team.
He earned second-team and honorable mention all-conference awards at defensive back in high school.
Alexander concluded his career with 118 catches for 1,609 yards. Both are school records. His 13.6 yards per reception is third-best in school history, and his 12 career TD catches are the second-most. Alexander’s career-high was 153 yards on eight receptions against Cheyenne East on 9-15-23.

Max also played basketball and track and field at LHS. As a three-year starter in basketball, he helped the Plainsmen to three consecutive runner-up finishes at the 4A basketball state tournament and was named all-conference twice. Alexander has also qualified for the state track meet all four years of his prep career.
Amherst College is in Amherst, MA. The Mammoths compete at the NCAA Division III level and are members of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The school claims its athletic programs are the oldest in the country.
