The Lyman Eagles have won the 2A state championship in football for the last two years running and could be the team to beat in 2022. The Eagles however did lose to Bear Lake, Idaho 28-0 over the weekend and that was their first loss after 20 straight wins. Lyman did start the season with a 14-0 win over Malad, Idaho but had all kinds of difficulty in Montpelier on Friday. Bear Lake quarterback Tayson Neal was 13-22 for 234 yards and three touchdown passes along with 2 interceptions. Lyman also threw 2 picks in the contest.

Despite the result, Lyman is going to be an extremely tough opponent this year with a trio of returning all-state selections; quarterback Ashton Houskeeper, receiver McCoy Smith, and defensive star Braydon Bradshaw. Throw in all-conference pick Morgan Hatch on defense and this unit should be stout. This program has gone 23-1 over the course of the 2020 and 2021 seasons. They know how to win and they know how to perform in close games.
