Only Two Differences in the New WyoPreps Football Rankings

The Week 6 edition of the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Football Poll has two changes.

As expected, there is a new No. 1 in Class 4A, and Cokeville returns to the top five. It means that three of the classifications didn’t change.

For the first time since the preseason poll, the Sheridan Broncs are back on top of 4A. They received 19 of the 20 first-place votes. The defending champs posted a 42-39 victory over Cheyenne East last Friday night. The Thunderbirds dropped to second but got the only other first-place vote. Natrona County, Cheyenne Central, and Thunder Basin rounded out the top five.

Cokeville is back in the top five at No. 5 in Class 2A for the first time in three weeks. The Panthers had a road shutout at Mountain View last Friday. That pushed the Buffalos out of the poll. The rest of the 2A rankings stayed the same. Lovell is on top with 15 of the 18 first-place votes. The other three went to Tongue River, which was second. Lyman and Big Horn remained third and fourth.

The other classes did not change.

In 3A, Cody stayed at No. 1 with all but one first-place vote. Star Valley earned that one. The Braves were second and followed by Douglas, Buffalo, and Jackson.

For the third straight set of rankings, Class 1A-9 Man kept the same order. Pine Bluffs is first with 17 of the 19 votes for the top spot. Then, it was Shoshoni, Wind River, Lingle-Ft. Laramie, and Big Piney.

Finally, Little Snake River was not a unanimous choice for No. 1 in the 6-man poll. The Rattlers received 16 of the 17 first-place votes. The undefeated Burlington Huskies got the other vote for the top position. They stayed third behind Dubois. Encampment and Kaycee rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth, respectively.

One oddity was that both the top-ranked teams in 4A and 3A, Sheridan and Cody, were each left off one ballot.
