Cheyenne Central and Laramie are certainly not strangers on the basketball court and the 4A East rivals met in Casper with a state championship on the line in Casper on Saturday night. Laramie just beat Central 80-72 in the 4A East regional final and these teams were evenly matched. Cheyenne Central had a 10-point lead in the first half and Laramie stormed back into the game in the 3rd quarter. Central surged ahead in the 4th with a succession of 3-pointers and still had to hold off a last-second 3-point attempt by the Plainsmen to secure the victory.

Central was loaded with offensive talent this season and they were led on Saturday by Joe Sawyer with 19 points on 6-12 from the field. Chase Talich was 7-13 from the floor and finished with 18 and the Tribe hit some critical free throws down the stretch. Central concluded the season at 25-3 and missed the 4A State Tournament in the 2 previous years.  Laramie got another double-double from Neil Summers with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Max Alexander was in double figures for the Plainsmen with 13 points. Laramie wrapped up the season at 22-4, which was their highest win total since 1964.

It was a compelling game for sure and be sure and take a look at our video and some photos in our gallery below. Enjoy!
