Photofest: Tongue River Holds off Wheatland in 2A Football
Tongue River and Wheatland faced off on the gridiron on Friday night with both teams looking for some momentum heading into the 2A playoffs. Wheatland had a 7-0 lead at halftime as they found the end zone in the 2nd quarter but Tongue River evened the game in the 3rd quarter with a touchdown of their own and put the game away with two more TDs in the 4th quarter.
Tongue River is 7-2 and rebounded from a tough 14-7 loss to Big Horn the week before. They will be the 3rd seed from the East and have a long road trip to Lyman in the opening round of the playoffs. The Eagles are making their 2nd straight appearance in the playoffs and are looking for their first state championship since 1974.
Wheatland got off to a rough start this season with 2 big losses to Nebraska schools but found some traction as the season went on. Twice this season. they have rung up 50 points or more in a game and won 2 of their last 4 heading into the postseason. The Bulldogs are the #4 seed from the East and have a daunting task as they travel to Mountain View for their quarterfinal round game. Wheatland did not qualify for the playoffs last season but did so in the previous 10 seasons, last winning a state title in 2015.
