Pine Bluffs had a strong football team this season and atoned for a loss in the regular season to Lingle-Fort Laramie with a 28-22 win over the Doggers in the 1A 9-Man championship game on Saturday in Laramie. PB lost to LFL in the regular season 30-27 but the Hornets gave themselves some breathing room with a great 2nd quarter.

Quarterback Carten Freeburrg broke his collarbone near the end of the game but before that, he had a 38-yard run for a touchdown and an 11-yard scamper for 6 in that 2nd period of play. He rang up 147 yards rushing on 17 carries as the Hornets accumulated 276 yards on the ground for the day.

Defensively, Ethan Bomberger led the way with 10 tackles and a forced fumble with Ryan Mohren contributing 9 tackles. They stopped a powerful Lingle-Fort Laramie running attack and held the Doggers to 102 yards in that category.

We had a chance to talk with Freeburg, Bomberger, and Shawn Shmidl after the contest and it was a gratifying feeling to play well and take home the championship trophy
