The Riverton boys basketball program won a 4A state title back in 2017 but 2019 and 2020 were very lean years. But the Wolverines got it together and made the 2021 state tournament and ended up 5th. Jared Lucas was an all-state selection as he averaged 15 points per game. Lucas Engle and Aquilo Friday were all-conference selections.

In the opening round of the state tournament in Casper back in March, Riverton took on Sheridan and the Wolverines did absorb a 64-44 loss. It was a game of halves for the Wolverines; 60% shooting from the field in the first and 33% shooting in the 2nd. Jared Lucas poured in 18 on 7-10 from the floor and Lucas Engle had 9.

In the consolation round, Riverton found some traction and downed Rock Springs 45-33 and did this without a single player in double figures scoring-wise. Lucas had 9 points, Aquilo Friday chipped in 8 with Engle contributing 8. Riverton also outrebounded Rock Springs by 10.

In the 5th/6th place game, Riverton came through with an 81-67 win over Cheyenne East as Jared Lucas had a tremendous game with 29 points on 10-14 from the floor. He also had 10 rebounds. Lucas Engle was 8-10 from the field and finished with 17 points with Aquilo Friday adding 13.

Lucas and Friday were seniors so that's a lot of firepower to replace but Engle returns next season as a senior. This team will have a different look in 2021-22 with 5 seniors on the roster with a couple of juniors. Be sure and check out our short video of the Wolverines at the state tournament. Enjoy!
