The Jackson girls and Kelly Walsh boys captured the 2025 Wyoming High School Nordic Skiing State Championships last Saturday in Laramie. For Jackson, it was their 25th title in school history and first since 2022. Kelly Walsh repeated as the boys’ team winners and earned its fourth crown in school history. Four skiers from different schools won the state championship races over the two days of competition.

Raina Wachob from Cody and Sam Hutchinson of Jackson won last Friday’s 5km classic races. Wachob crossed the finish line first in the girls’ division at 18:47.9. She won the race by just over five seconds. Pinedale’s Olivia Tolson took second at 18:53.1. Ameya Eddy of Lander finished in third place at 19:05. In the boys’ race, Hutchinson surged to the win at 15:48.4. His margin of victory was over 21 seconds. Fisk Johansson of Kelly Walsh placed second at 16:10. He was the defending champion in that race. KW teammate Everett Roberson finished third at 16:21.2.

Kayley Alicke of Sheridan and Johansson from KW won last Saturday’s 10km freestyle or skate races. Alicke skied the course in 35:15.2. She pulled away from the competition in the girls’ division and won by 65 seconds. Tolson from Pinedale took second at 36:21. Lander’s Eddy was third at 36:35.5. In the boys’ race, Johansson won the crown, his second individual win in the last two years, at 28:21.8. He held off Hutchinson of Jackson, who finished second, 17 seconds back at 28:39.8. Natrona County teammates Kalel Brubaker and William Blair tied for third place at 28:48.8.

Jackson topped the girls’ team standings with 207 points. Two-time defending champ Lander was second at 176. Natrona County took third with 130, followed by Cody at 120, Laramie at 97, Kelly Walsh with 73, Sheridan at 65 points, and Pinedale took eighth at 62 points.

Kelly Walsh surged to their second consecutive boys’ team title with 221 points. Jackson edged Natrona County for second with 165 points. The Mustangs had 163. Sheridan was fourth at 111 points. Lander placed fifth with 104 team points. Pinedale was sixth at 91, followed by Laramie with 75 points. Cody finished eight but did not score any team points.

The championships were at the Happy Jack Recreation Area trails east of Laramie in the Laramie Range Mountains.
