Campbell County Fights Back to Win Second Softball State Championship [PHOTOS, VIDEOS]

On a dreary and cool Saturday in Cheyenne, the Campbell County Camels won three straight elimination games to capture the 2025 Wyoming High School Softball State Championship. It was the second softball title in school history. The defeated Cheyenne East first, and then beat Cheyenne Central twice, and earned the state championship trophy.

Campbell County lost a winner's bracket game on Friday morning to Cheyenne East, 11-3. They won five straight elimination games last Friday and Saturday en route to the title. The Camels survived Laramie, 19-18, and Natrona County, 12-11. Last Saturday morning, Campbell County scored the first eight runs of the game and beat Cheyenne East, 10-6, to advance to the state championship game. Madison Cone had a double and two triples and drove in four runs for the Camels.

In the first championship game last Saturday, Campbell County rolled past Cheyenne Central, 29-9. The Camels scored four runs in the first inning and added 18 more in the next two frames in a dominant victory. They finished with 24 hits. Lanae Kimbley had four hits and three RBIs. Caden Simianer added four hits and two RBIs. Courtney Thayer finished with two hits and drove in six runs. That forced a second, winner-take-all, championship game against the Indians.

Cheyenne Central jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Campbell County answered with eight runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Indians pulled within 10-8 and 15-11, but a two-run home run by Kimbley sealed it for the Camels in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cone struck out Maya Driver to cap the victory. Kimbley had four hits and three RBIs, and Patience Smith added three hits and four RBIs for Campbell County. Here is the final out and the celebratory filling out of the bracket.

Campbell County finished the season at 33-5. Cheyenne Central was 24-12. In a bit of irony, the Camels took the same path when they won their first state championship in 2021, winning the first, losing the second, and winning five in a row for the title.
