Thunder Basin’s Gabby Mendoza Remains Strong in Hurdle Events
Gabby Mendoza from Thunder Basin looked sharp in the hurdle events in the Kelly Walsh Meet in Casper on Saturday. After a timing malfunction, Mendoza had to re-run the 100 hurdles and won that race in 15.79. She also won the 300 hurdles in 47.25 and her teammate Jayden Friedly was 2nd in both of those events.
At the State Outdoor Track Meet back in May, Mendoza won the 4A state championship in the 100 hurdles with a clocking of 15.86 and took 2nd in the 300 in 46.05. By the way. she owns the Thunder Basin School record in the 300 in 45.56. She placed 5th at the state meet as a freshman in the 300 in 48.67.
Mendoza was a 2nd team all-conference basketball player for the Bolts, averaging 7 points and 4 rebounds per game. We had a chance to chat with Gabby Mendoza after that narrow win in the 300 at Kelly Walsh on Saturday afternoon.
