Two New Teams Top the WyoPreps Boys Basketball Rankings

The new WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Boys Basketball Rankings are highlighted by two new top-ranked teams.

Sheridan and Rocky Mountain stay No. 1 in 4A and 2A, respectively. Powell and Saratoga are new teams ranked first in 3A and 1A.

The only class that has the same top five is in 2A. There are also two new teams in the poll.

For the first time this season, the Powell Panthers hold the top spot in Class 3A. Powell beat Worland last Saturday. That pushes the Panthers to No. 1 with 13 first-place votes. Three other teams did receive a first-place vote. That includes the Warriors, who fall one spot to second. Buffalo got one No. 1 vote, and the Bison stay in third. Rawlins moves up one spot to fourth. The voting closes before the Outlaws lost at home to Lyman on Tuesday night. Mountain View falls into a tie for fifth, as Lander is back into the rankings. The Buffalos received a first-place vote, but it was the votes in the other four positions that have the two teams tied.

Class 1A defending champion Saratoga is back atop the rankings. A sweep of a road swing to Cokeville and Farson pushes the Panthers to No. 1. They beat previously top-ranked Encampment last night by two points. The voting closed before that game was played. Saratoga received six first-place votes. Upton got four votes for No. 1, and the Bobcats hold second. Encampment has lost two of their last three, including Tuesday night, and the Tigers drop to third. Farson-Eden falls one position to fourth. Southeast stays at No. 5.

Sheridan remains a unanimous selection for the top spot in Class 4A. Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne East both move up one in the poll. The Indians are second, followed by the Thunderbirds. Only six points separate the two Capital City schools. Thunder Basin’s 0-2 road trip to Cheyenne drops the Bolts to fourth. Campbell County’s double-OT victory at Central was enough to lift the Camels back into the rankings at fifth. Laramie falls out of the top five, though the margin is just six points in the balloting between the two schools.

Class 2A did not change this week. Rocky Mountain holds the No. 1 spot thanks to seven first-place votes. Sundance is second with four votes for the top position. Big Piney, Tongue River, and Big Horn stay three, four, and five, respectively.
