The third week of the high school cross country season featured a preview of the state championship course.

Afton, WY was the biggest competition spot for the weekend. Teams had a chance to compete on the Valli-vue golf course where they will run in October for 2019's state culminating event.  Some teams opted to head to events just across a border and fared very well.

Thursday, Sept. 12:

Belle Fourche XC Invitational (in South Dakota) - Douglas, Newcastle, and Sundance attended

Alissa Wieman of Douglas placed third in the girls' 5K race, while Newcastle's Tristan Troftgruben finished in eighth place to pace the Wyoming boys' contingent. The Dogies took third in the team race.

Friday, Sept. 13:

Big Horn XC Invitational (at the Powder Horn) - no team scores provided

Buffalo's Kendall Tietjen and Douglas' Cameryn Spence took top honors on Friday at the Powder Horn course.

Legacy Lightning Invitational (in Broomfield, CO) - Laramie attended

Laramie's Abigail Whitman won the girls' 5K race, while Mason Swingholm placed fifth in the boys' division. Laramie came in third and fourth in the team standings for girls and boys, respectively.

Kimball Invite (in Kimball, NE) - Cheyenne South, Pine Bluffs, Saratoga, Torrington, Wheatland attended

The Pine Bluffs girls dominated with three runners in the top five and won by 36 points. Piper Perez captured individual honors with a first-place finish.

Cheyenne South won the boys' team title by 10 points over Saratoga. The Panthers took individual honors with twin freshmen Grant and Grady Bartlett finishing 1-2. In fact, Wyoming boys took the top seven spots.

Saturday, Sept. 14:

Wyoming State Preview Meet (in Afton)

Rawlins junior standout Sydney Thorvaldson dominated the competition and won by over two minutes in the girls' division. The Natrona County Fillies beat Lander by five points for the team title

Star Valley junior Peter Visser won by 14 seconds to take the boys' individual crown. The Braves also won the team crown by 34 points on their home course.

Red Lodge Invitational (in Montana) - Powell attended

The Powell girls placed third and were led by Kayla Kolpitcke, who came in seventh.

The Powell boys finished second in the team standings. Tyler Pfeifer took third individually.

Bozeman XC Invitational (in Montana) - Cody & Sheridan attended

The Sheridan girls came in fourth place as a team. Ella Kessner was the top individual runner in ninth.

The Sheridan boys took third in the team standings. Austin Akers was the top runner in 16th place.
