The Wyoming High School cross country season in the Cowboy State begins this weekend for the 2023 season.

The first races are in Afton and Newcastle on Thursday. Casper Mountain will host on Friday.

Some teams are going to cross-country races out of state.

Thursday, Aug. 24:

More Cowbell Invitational at the Valli Vu Golf Course in Afton, WY – Evanston, Lyman, Mountain View, Star Valley; Bear Lake (ID), Soda Springs (ID), Teton (ID).

In a different meet, runners were asked to predict their time, the winners were the closest to their prediction. Star Valley won the team title with the best-combined score between girls and boys.

Friday, Aug. 25:

KW Beartrap Cross Country Invitational at Beartrap Meadow on Casper Mountain – Big Horn, Campbell County, Cheyenne South, Douglas, Glenrock, Kelly Walsh, Lander, Laramie, Moorcroft, Natrona County, Pine Bluffs/Burns, Rawlins, Riverton, Rock Springs, Saratoga/Encampment, Sheridan, Thunder Basin, Tongue River, Wind River, Wyoming Indian.

Kayley Alicke of Sheridan won at 19:59.74. Riverton's Kaden Chatfield won the boys' race at 16:47.33

Laramie swept the team titles.

Newcastle Invite at Mallo Camp – Newcastle, Sundance, Torrington, Wheatland, Wright; Belle Fourche (SD), Black Hills Christian Academy (SD), Custer (SD), Hill City (SD), Hot Springs (SD), Rapid City Christian (SD).

Out-of-State Events:

Billings (MT) Invite at Amend Park – Buffalo, Burlington, Cody, Lovell, Powell, Rocky Mountain, Thermopolis, Worland.

Charlie Hulbert of Cody won the boys' division at 15:41.51. Worland was 2nd and Cody 3rd.

Horizon Invitational at Adams County Regional Park XC Course in Brighton, CO – Cheyenne Central.

Bridger Brokaw led a 1-2-3 finish for the Central boys, who won the meet. Central also won the girls' team crown.

Idaho Falls Night at the Races at Community Park in Idaho Falls, ID – Jackson.

Madison Antonino of Jackson won her section of the girls' race at 20:32.9

Jackson won their section of the boys' division with runners 2-5.

Saturday, Aug. 26:

Out-of-State Events:

John Martin XC Invite in Fort Collins, CO – Cheyenne East.

East took 6th in both divisions.
