Similar to the boys rankings, the last coaches/media girls basketball rankings before the winter break feature two new #1's, while the other top ranked keep have maintained a strong hold on their spot.

Not only did having their game cancelled due to the snowstorm keep Cheyenne East off of the court, it kept their record unblemished, and the voters put the Lady Thunderbirds as the unanimous #1 team in 4A. They just have to find a way to keep 3 1/2 weeks of rust off of them, between and their home opener on January 7th. The top 4 ranked teams are unchanged from the last time. Sheridan remains at #2, followed by Gillette and Natrona. Cheyenne Central makes their way into the top 5, by 1 vote ahead of Kelly Walsh. Sheridan and Gillette will keep themselves busy during the break at the Energy Classic Tournament, while Central will play a game in Ft. Collins, Colorado, right after the New Years' Holiday.

After not having a chance to prove they were the pre-season 3A #1, Worland took back their ranking with a good showing this past weekend, at the Flaming Gorge Classic vs. some 4A competition. Mountain View also had a good weekend in Sweetwater County, as the Lady Buffalos claim the #2 ranking. Lovell and Newcastle both picked up their first losses of the season this past weekend, just like MV, but did enough for the voters to put them at #3 and #5 respectively. Meanwhile, the voters got on Star Valley and Rawlins to some degree even though they played out of state or 4A teams. The Lady Braves were dropped from #2 to #4, while the Lady Outlaws were kicked out of the top #5, after being ranked #1 last week. It's early in the season though...and there will be plenty of opportunities to shake things up again, once the New Year gets underway. Worland and Lovell could cross paths at the Big Horn Basin Tournament on either January 8th or 9th.

Defending 2A champ Lyman is vote off of being the unanimous #1 in their class. The Lady Eagles will have a good test on their hands on January 2nd, when they host their Bridger Valley rival, #2 3A Mountain View. It won't matter which team is in what class, when the 2 teams hook up in the Lady Eagles gym. As for the rest of the 2A rankings, Big Horn moves ahead of Southeast for #2, thus pushing the Lady Cyclones to #3. SE and #4 Pine Bluffs will play the Lady Rams a visit, once the season resumes. Wyoming Indian is back in the top 5 at #5. Coach Moss did have an interesting tweet last week, that it was weird not seeing Coach Moser on the other side of the court, when the Lady Chiefs beat previously #5 Tongue River.

There's a new #1 team in 1A. St. Stephens got 2 double digits wins vs. ranked opponents including last week's #1 Encampment, to become the new top ranked team. You might think with 2 big wins, there would be a gap between #1 and #2, however the Lady Tigers are only 1 vote behind the Lady Eagles. Elsewhere, Little Snake River maintains their #3 spot. Lingle-Ft. Laramie moves up one spot from #5 to #4, but has to share that ranking with Farson-Eden, which has quietly put together a 1-loss season so far.

Disclaimer: The polls have no official say or use on post-season positioning, and are only to be used as a measuring stick on the regular season. Please don’t read too much into the rankings.

Note: Because of the Holiday Break for most teams, the next rankings won't come out until Thursday, January 14.
