It’s another busy weekend on the trails and slopes for high school skiers across Wyoming. Both Nordic and Alpine have weekend competitions.

The schedule this weekend is a reverse of last week with Nordic just outside of Laramie and Alpine on Casper Mountain.

Nordic Skiing – Laramie Invite at Happy Jack Trails

It’s the third consecutive weekend of skiing for Nordic competitors. This week’s skiing is on the Happy Jack Trails at the Tie City Trailheads east of Laramie in the Laramie Range.

First up on Friday is a 5km freestyle or skate race. The varsity girls will start at 1 p.m., and the varsity boys will begin at 1:30 p.m. This race features a mass start.

The second day of action on Saturday is a 7.5km classic race. Skiing begins at 10 a.m., and this race will have an interval start with one skier going out every 15 seconds. The varsity boys are first, and then the varsity girls will be sent off.

Laramie High School is the race host and this event will include the teams of Cody/Sheridan, Jackson, Kelly Walsh, Lander, Natrona County, and Pinedale.

Friday Freestyle Results:

Kate Brigham of Jackson won the varsity girls' race in 20:39.5.

Will Johnson of Jackson captured first-place in the boys' division in a time of 19:01.5.

Saturday Classic Results:

Jackson's Kate Brigham finishes the weekend with a sweep, as she captured the classic race on Saturday with a final time of 25:10.3 and won by nearly 90 seconds.

Will Johnson from Jackson also completed a 2-for-2 weekend. He won the boys' classic race with a time of 23:32.5.

Alpine Skiing – KWHS Bruce Studer Invitational - UPDATED! - Dates Changed to Jan. 20 & 21 (Thursday/Friday)

Downhill skiers compete on back-to-back weekends as they hit the slopes at Hogadon Basin Ski Area on Casper Mountain for the Kelly Walsh High School Bruce Studer Invitational on Thursday and Friday.

Both days of skiing will feature the varsity girls on the course first and then the varsity boys.

Thursday is the slalom race, and Friday is the giant slalom race. Both days of competition will take place on Boomerang run.

Thursday has a scheduled start time of 6 p.m. (night race). Friday is at 10:15 a.m.

Kelly Walsh is hosting Cody, Jackson, Laramie, Natrona County, and Pinedale for the second races of the 2022 season.

Thursday Night Slalom Results:

Taylor Smith and Nick Janssen from Jackson won the first night race at Hogadon Basin Ski Area. Smith won by just over one second, while Janssen beat the field by nearly four seconds.

Friday Giant Slalom Results:

Due to conditions on the mountain, only 1 run was squeezed in on Friday. Jackson's Sidney Nash and Nick Janssen had the fastest times.

Girls Final Team Scores: Jackson 120, Cody 78, Natrona County 72, Kelly Walsh 40, Pinedale 23, Laramie 11

Boys Final Team Scores: Jackson 123, Kelly Walsh 68, Cody, 57, Natrona County 54, Laramie 22, Pinedale 18
