Wyoming High School Tennis Week 1: Aug. 15, 2020

The Wyoming high school tennis teams will begin to play starting Saturday on Aug. 15. Tennis teams started practice on Aug. 10.

There are considerations put into place for each sport to assist in having a successful season. The regular-season matches have limited to duals only. However, teams are able to have more than one dual a day.

The reigning champion tennis teams look to continue success in the new Fall 2020 season. The Powell boys took the 2019 team championship whereas Cheyenne Central and Sheridan shared the 2019 girls' team championship.

The individual results will look different this season as the previous winner in boys #1 singles Brendan Lock completed his senior season last season. Dylan Preator of Powell the 2019 boys #2 singles champ was also a senior. For the girls #1 singles, Emily Needham (Sr.) of Cheyenne Central now in her senior season will look to pick up where she left off last season. Ella Laird (Sr.) of Sheridan was the girls' #2 singles champion will also be back to continue her success as well.

The Cody girls teams will be looking to continue its success from the 2019 season after claiming the championships of girls doubles 1,2, 3. The girls #1 doubles will see a new champion this season as the 2019 winners Maddy Icenogle and Simona Wambeke of Cody were both seniors last season. However, the reigning girls #2 doubles champion are returning this season with Ashlynn Staggs (So.) and Anna Brenner (Jr.) of Cody. The Cody tennis team will also see the return of their girls #3 doubles champs this season as well. Soffy Anderson (Sr.) and Natty Morales (So.) will look to continue the success from the 2019 season.

The boys #1 doubles 2019 champion Jefferson Neary (Sr.) and Austin Robertson (Sr.) of Campbell County are both in their senior seasons this time around. The boys #2 doubles 2019 champion was Colton Allaire and Parker Phillips (Jr.) of Kelly Walsh. Phillips will be returning for the 2020 season as Allaire was in his senior season last year. Jay Cox and Logan Brown (Jr.) of Powell is the reigning #3 doubles champs.
