Wyoming High School Winter Sports Are Ready for the 2021-22 Season
It might be the Monday before the Thanksgiving break, but the winter sports season at the high school level is cranking up.
Nordic skiing opened practice last Monday. Alpine skiing, boys’ and girls’ basketball, and wrestling start practice today. The last to get going in November will be boys’ swimming & diving, as they start next Monday.
The first competition weekend of winter sports is set for Dec. 9-11, 2021. Basketball, wrestling, boys’ swimming & diving, and Nordic skiers are all set to have their first competitions of the 2021-22 high school winter sports season that weekend. The first three will feature games, matches, and meets across the state. Nordic skiers are supposed to begin, snow-permitting, on Casper Mountain.
The Alpine skiing won’t have its first competition until after the New Year begins. Laramie will host on Jan. 7 and 8 at Snowy Range Ski Area.
Indoor Track doesn’t begin practicing until January 3, 2022, with their first action the weekend of Jan. 13-15, 2022.
The state championships for high school winter sports begin with swimming in Gillette on Feb. 17-19, 2022. Class 3A will be on Thursday and Friday, while Class 4A competes on Friday and Saturday.
The regional wrestling tournaments will be that same Friday (2/18/22) and Saturday (2/19/22). Those will be in Sundance and Greybull for 2A, in Newcastle and Lander for 3A, and in Sheridan and Laramie for 4A.
The next weekend features culminating events for wrestling and Nordic skiing. The state wrestling championships are at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper for all three classes on Feb. 25 and 26, 2022. The State Nordic Skiing meet will be at Pinedale on the same two dates.
Regional basketball for Classes 1A and 2A will be Feb. 24-26, 2022. The 1A West will be in Lander with the 1A East in Torrington. The 2A West plays in Riverton and the 2A East is at Pine Bluffs.
The first weekend in March features the State Basketball Tournament for Class 1A and 2A on March 3-5, 2022 in Casper at the Ford Wyoming Center and Casper College. You also have State Alpine Skiing in Jackson and State Indoor Track in Gillette on March 4 and 5, 2022.
The regional basketball tournament for Classes 3A and 4A is March 3-5, 2022. The 3A East is in Burns and the 3A West is in Powell. The 4A East will be in Cheyenne and is hosted by South, while the 4A West is at Riverton.
The parade of Winter Sports Championships concludes with the Class 3A and 4A State Basketball Tournament in Casper on March 10-12, 2022, at the Ford Wyoming Center and Casper College.
