The start of conference play in the 3A East gets our attention as the WyoPreps Big School Game of the Week.

The two co-No. 5 ranked teams square off with Worland at Douglas.

The Bearcats have been the standard atop the 3A East for several years. The Warriors recently moved into that conference. A 1-0 start in 2022 could be huge in determining who takes the 3A East title later on.

Both teams are 2-1 on the season. Douglas lost in Week 1 at Jackson (17-9), but the Bearcats have bounced back with victories over Gering, NE (45-24) and Powell (34-14). Worland opened with an upset of a then-ranked Powell team (28-7) but lost in Week 2 at No. 1 Cody (67-7), before a bounce back last week over Green River (41-18).

Head coaches Patrick Sweeney (Worland) and Jay Rhoades (Douglas) sat down with WyoPreps for a video interview about this game. The two coaches discussed how they feel about their squad entering conference play, what they feel league play will be like, some key personnel, each other’s teams, and a few keys to getting a victory in this game.

The first meeting between the two schools on the gridiron goes back to 1922. They have met 23 previous times, and Worland leads the series, 13-10, according to wyoming-football.com. Douglas has won two in a row against the Warriors.

The game is slated for a 6 p.m. start at Bearcat Stadium.
