A new season means new challenges for the Rock Springs boys’ basketball program. Four experienced guards will lead them throughout the 2023-24 season.

The Tigers went 13-11 last year but missed out on the 4A state tournament for the third time in the last five seasons. They were 3-2 in the conference with one game canceled, but Rock Springs went 1-2 at the 4A West Regional tournament. The Tigers lost two all-conference and one all-state player from last season. Both were double-figure scorers.

On top of that, they lost their post player, Sam Lionberger to an injury.

Seniors Je’Von Newman and Joey Stauffer are two of the four guards that RS will count on to lead the way in the 2023-24 season. We caught up with the duo and Coach Bill Rosette after practice on our preseason tour last week. The players described how things are going, adjusting to a slightly different style, what they still need to focus on before they begin the season, some early goals, and more. Coach Rosette discussed the same topics but also touched on the 4A outlook and how he believes in his group.

Rosette is in his third season as head coach, so he’s had this group since they were sophomores. They’d love to pull some surprises along the way and get back to Casper.

The Tigers begin their season at a tournament in Gillette. They will play Thunder Basin, Buffalo, and Campbell County during the first weekend of the season.
