WyoPreps Spotlight: Star Valley’s Valerie Jirak [VIDEO]
Star Valley senior Valerie Jirak has found her new future home, and it’s 2,120 miles and 31 hours away from Afton, WY.
Where is that? It’s Durham, NC, the home of the Duke University Blue Devils.
Jirak signed with the ACC school for track and field earlier this month. On Wednesday, I had a chance to visit with one of the seniors in the Class of 2024, who will compete at the Division I level of collegiate athletics.
The senior spoke about having this decision behind her before her senior season of indoor and outdoor track, what the process was like, why Duke, how she became a multi-eventer, and more.
Jirak has earned all-state honors in the 400-meter and high jump. She ran on the 4A state champion 4x100 meter relay that had a time of 48.79 seconds. They also hold the school record.
