The first championship of the high school fall sports season will be on Friday and Saturday with the state golf tournaments.

The three classifications will play 36 holes of medal play. That’s 18 holes both days.

The weather looks good at all three venues with sunny and breezy conditions.

Class 2A – Thermopolis Golf Course in Thermopolis, WY

The Sundance girls are the two-time defending champions after winning by two shots last year. The Thermopolis boys have won three straight and five of the last seven state titles. The Bobcats won by 19 strokes in 2020.

For the ladies, Upton’s Brooklyn Materi will defend her title. On the gentleman’s side, Thermopolis senior Hardy Johnson is the three-time defending champion.

It’s a shotgun start on both days. Friday will begin at 10 a.m., while Saturday’s final round starts at 9 a.m.

Class 3A – Lander Golf Course in Lander, WY

The Lovell girls won their first-ever state golf crown in 2020 by three shots. The Worland boys captured the team crown last year by 39 shots.

Erika Cook from Lovell is the defending girls’ champion. She won by seven strokes last year.

Riverton’s Parker Paxton will defend a title he won as a freshman last fall. Paxton took the medalist honor by three shots.

The shotgun starts are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Class 4A – Snake River Sporting Club & Shooting Star Golf Course in Jackson and Teton Village, WY

Thunder Basin has won the last two girls’ team titles after a two-stroke win in 2020. Sheridan captured last year’s boys’ team crown by 12 shots.

The defending champion for the ladies is Sheridan’s, Samantha Spielman. She won by three shots last year. Laramie’s Jackson McClaren looks to defend his title after a two-stroke victory last fall in Casper.

It’s a shotgun start at 11 a.m. on both days. The golfers will play at Snake River Sporting Club on Friday and then switch to play at Shooting Star Golf Course on Saturday.
