The final 18 holes are all that remain in the 2023 high school golf season in Wyoming.

Round one of the state championships was Friday in Newcastle (2A), Worland (3A), and Sheridan (4A).

While a few familiar names are at the top of the leaderboard, there are a few surprises after Day One.

In 2A, three girls are within one shot of the lead, and there is a three-way tie atop the boys’ standings. The Sundance girls and Upton boys have sizeable leads entering the final round in the team race.

From 3A, the top three girls’ golfers are separated by two shots. Only one shot is the difference between the top two boys’ golfers. Wheatland has a good lead at the top of the girls’ team standings, while Riverton and Evanston are locked in a battle for the boys.

Finally, in 4A, the top four girls are within three shots of each other. The boys’ clubhouse leader is a new name, but the defending champ is two shots back, and several others are within striking distance. Natrona County has a solid lead and will look to hold off Sheridan in the girls’ division. Cheyenne East enjoyed the lead after round one, but Jackson isn’t too far behind for the boys’ team race.

The final round of the season tees off this morning.
