Defending 3A state champion Star valley flexed their muscles to win the west regional tournament in Mountain View over the weekend. The Braves rang up 264.5 to take first with Powell 2nd at 193 and Cody 3rd with 123.5

At 106 Powell went 1-2 as Colt Nicholson took first and Nate Balderas 2nd. Sefton Douglass of Lyman who won a state championship last year at 106, took the 113-pound regional title with a 9-3 win over Jacob Guild of Star Valley. Over at 120, Waylon Nelson defeated Colton Gelhhausen of Pinedale 3-1. Pinedale’s Cody Phelps came up with a pin to beat Tipton Wilson of Jackson to get to 38-2 on the year.

Star Valley also went 1-2 at 132 pounds with Brayden Andrews taking the gold and Joseph Thompson the silver. Star Valley’s Haze Child who won state a year ago at 120 beat Corey Linebaugh of Powell to win the 138-pound class. Another defending state champion, Ridge Briggs of Riverton prevailed at 145 thanks to a 10-0 win over Hagan Lamoreaux of Lyman.

Moving over to 152, Powell’s Seth Horon posted a 602 decision over Tray Hyatt of Riverton while Mark Walker of Mountain View won the 160-pound class, beating Zach Patterson of Star Valley by fall. Jack Sweeney of Lander defeated Bo Dreacorn of Powell by injury default at 170 with defending 195 state champion Charlie Beaudrie of Cody took the podium at 182 with a 9-3 win over David Walker of Star Valley.

Trent Clark of Star Valley who won a state title last year at 182 won the west regional at 195 with a 4-0 win over Kaden Gantenbein of Riverton. Powell’s Carson Olsen won the 220-pound group beating Matt Wolfard from Lyman by fall and at the heavyweight spot, defending state champion Parker Merritt from Star Valley beat Kris Topaum of Riverton with an early pin.
