4A State Basketball Tournament Day One Recaps

The big school division opens its state tournament first-round action on Thursday in Casper.

The following is a brief summary of each game and is updated after a game has concluded. Class 4A games on the first day of the state tournament are played at Casper College. The games appear in order of the schedule at the site.

Girls: (2E) Cheyenne Central 62 (3W) Green River 37

Four Cheyenne Central girls scored in double figures, as the Indians pulled away to beat Green River in what turned out to be the only Class 4A game played at the state tournament. Ellie Fearneyhough led the way for the Indians with 17 points, 20 rebounds, and four steals. Jayla Jones scored 11 points, while Kelsey Basart and Jordan Jones added 10 points each. The game was tied at 21-21 at halftime. Central then pulled ahead 34-31 after the third quarter. The Indians exploded in the fourth and put up 28 points, while the Wolves struggled with only six. Cheyenne Central shot 48 percent in the second half. Green River shot only 27 percent from the field. They finished 1-12 from 3-point range. Ashelynn Birch led the Wolves with 18 points and seven rebounds.
