A pair of hard-working rodeo athletes earned The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week awards. The winners were Caitlin Moore of Wright and Tuker Carricato from Saratoga. These two rodeo athletes excelled at last weekend’s three high school rodeo performances in Buffalo. Their efforts came during the week from May 20 through May 27, 2024.

Girls Award

Moore was the only cowgirl with three victories in the last weekend of the regular season of high school rodeo. She won two rounds of pole bending and one round of goat tying at the Johnson County Fairgrounds over the Memorial Day weekend. Moore added top-six finishes in three other events. She placed first in the opening performance at Buffalo on Sunday with a time of 20.530 seconds in pole bending. Moore won the second round on Monday at 19.975 seconds. Her second win came Monday in goat tying, as she has the fastest run at 7-and-07. Moore finished third in goat tying in last Saturday’s Sheridan rodeo performance in Buffalo at 8.16 seconds. Last Sunday, she took fifth place in goat tying and sixth in breakaway roping.

WyoPreps visited with Moore about her busy weekend. She was finally happy to get things right with her horse in the poles, described her three rounds in goat tying, how she likes to be busy in each rodeo, her passion for the sport, and more.

Boys Award

After not competing in last Saturday’s Sheridan rodeo following his high school graduation, Carricato won both rounds of bareback riding at the Buffalo rodeo. He posted a 70-point ride in Sunday’s first round. Tuker followed that with another 70-point effort in the second round on Monday. Those were his 13th and 14th victories in bareback during the 2023-24 high school rodeo season.

Carricato spoke with WyoPreps about his two victories, how he knows he's lucky with the draw, what he focuses on before he rides, preparing for the state finals, and more.

Congratulations to Caitlin and Tuker on receiving our weekly honor!
