The six-time defending 3A girls’ basketball state champion Douglas Bearcats have a new leader ahead of the 2024-25 season. Kassidy Scott Johnson was hired as the new head coach. She replaces Cody Helenbolt, who left after 11 seasons at the helm to become the new head women’s basketball coach at Northwest College in Powell.

Scott Johnson served as the head volleyball coach at DHS for the last three years. She is a 2013 alumna of Douglas High School. Scott still holds the Lady Cats record for charges taken in a single season with 23 in 2011, and taken in a career with 52. She is third in school history with 1,591 career points. That was an average of 13.8 points per game across 115 games played. In her senior season (2012-13), Scott averaged 16.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game and helped Douglas to a runner-up finish in 3A. She grabbed 776 rebounds in her prep career and made 574 field goals and 328 free throws. She played college basketball at Casper College and Black Hills State University.

Helenbolt had an overall record of 258-28 in 11 seasons as the girls’ basketball head coach at DHS. He won seven state championships and led the Lady Cats to three undefeated seasons.

Helenbolt told WyoPreps it was a tough decision with the timing, but he’s excited for a new challenge. He replaces Lauren Davis, who left after three seasons.
