Cheyenne Central golfer extraordinaire Ethan Cates will be headed down I-80 over to Laramie to compete for the University of Wyoming golf team. Cates is a three time all state player and took 2nd place at the 2019 4A championships in Gillette. He shot rounds of 73 and 79 and finished 6 strokes behind the leader, Taj Sutherland of Kelly Walsh.

In 2018, Cates took 3rd at the 4A state tournament in Cheyenne, shooting 72 in the first round an 74 in the 2nd. He was 6 shots behind the winner Blake Danni of Cheyenne East. Cates took 8th place at the 2018 state tournament in 4A with rounds of 78-80.

He also played basketball at Cheyenne Central and led team in 3 pointers made and was a 73% free throw shooter.
