Cheyenne East entered the James Johnson Tournament ranked #1 in 4A in our WyoPreps poll and posted a 3-1 record in the tourney. The T-Birds defeated Rock Springs on Thursday 61-28 but received a wake-up call on Friday as they absorbed a 57-33 loss to Douglas who was ranked #1 in 3A. East bounced back on Friday with a 54-30 win and then had to rally from 15 down to beat Kelly Walsh 48-38.

This team had a 3-time all-state player in Bradie Schlabs who had been averaging 15 points a game and has signed with Black Hills State University. The Thunderbirds have been getting some serious production from 6-2 sophomore Jade Brown who has been throwing 11 points per game along with 6 rebounds per contest. Another sophomore, Peyton Hall has been averaging 7 points a game so there's some balance on the offensive attack.

East has won 2 4A state championships in the last 3 years and took 3rd in 2023, This program has won 20 or more games in 10 of the last 11 seasons including an undefeated campaign in 2022. There's a winning culture there and that will go a long way this year.

We talked with Bradie Schlabs and Ary Booth after their win over Green River on Friday night and it was good to get back on the winning track.
