The Douglas girls basketball team may in fact be the team to beat in 3A after another productive weekend. The Bearcats are 10-0 after wins over Buffalo and Thermopolis and that win over Buffalo was noteworthy, thanks to the performance of senior Allyson Fertig.

The 6-5, University of Wyoming signee was too much for Buffalo to handle as she rang up 41 points in the game. Fertig had 6 field goals in the first quarter, 2 in the 2nd, 6 more in the 3rd, and 5 more in the 4th. She is a 3-time all-state player and already has led Douglas to a couple of state championships.  She is averaging 23 points and 10 rebounds per game and her 41 point effort was the best in 3A this season. Another big factor is that Fertig has really applied some practice time to become a solid defensive player. Teams won't be going inside on Douglas very often and Fertig is a rebounding machine. Fertig is also an all-state volleyball player and competes in track and field so she is a tremendous all-around athlete. Douglas has a solid team so it's not a one-woman show. Kamdynn Townsend had 9 points in that game against Buffalo. But when you have somebody that is 6-5 in the pivot, that's a match-up that few teams can handle, no matter what the classification is.

The Bison have some good shooters on their roster and they were led in scoring on Friday night by Hannah Qualm with 13 points, Kendall Tietjen with 9, and Cassidy Bessler with 6. Buffalo is 4-7 on the year.
