The latest stop on the WyoPreps Preseason Football Tour in 2025 was in Shoshoni to check out the newest edition of the Wranglers. Shoshoni was 6-3 last year. They tied for first in the Class 1A 9-man West Conference at 4-1 and earned the top seed in the playoffs. The Wranglers were upset at home by Saratoga in the first round of the playoffs, 22-20. Shoshoni lost some key players, including two all-state players from that squad. Still, with five starters back on both sides of the ball, including all-state player Carson Kisling, the Wranglers hope to be a factor in the 9-man division again in 2025.

WYOPREPS PREVIEWS THE 2025 SHOSHONI WRANGLERS

Shoshoni will start the season with a new QB and be looking for more playmakers on offense. Last year, the Wranglers ran for 182 yards per game, which was No. 7. Their passing attack was No. 4 at 110 yards per game. They finished sixth in total offense at 292 yards per game and averaged 27.3 points per game. Kisling was one of the stars. He ran for 117.3 yards per game and had 11 TDs. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry and was fourth in the class in rushing. Defensively, Shoshoni could be very stout. Kisling anchors that side of the ball, as well. He was No. 1 in 9-man in defensive points per game at 25.3. Carson made 128 total tackles, which included seven for a loss. He added three fumble recoveries, one interception, six pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. Teammate Carlos Marrufo was No. 9 at 18.3 defensive points per game. He made 99 tackles, which included nine tackles for loss and four sacks.

WyoPreps spoke to Kisling and teammate Oakley Hicks to get their perspective on the upcoming 2025 season. They discussed how practice is going, what they’re focusing on, some key points for the season, what they expect in 9-man this year, and more.

Head Coach Tony Truempler told WyoPreps that things are off to a good start. He likes the returners he has, but knows they’ve got to fill a couple of holes. He also likes what he’s seeing in practice, understands they won’t be the biggest team in the class, and feels the 9-man division is more wide open for title contenders.

The Wranglers make their debut on Sept. 4 at defending champion Pine Bluffs. They do have a scrimmage at Wright on Aug. 30.
