Lander Boys Earn 4th Place Finish at 3A Basketball Tournament
Lander has been a winning program for quite some time now and the Tigers finished the season with a record of 16-7 and took 4th place at the 3A state tournament. The squad was the #3 seed from the west regional and met Douglas in the opening round of the state tournament.
Lander was red-hot from the field as they shot 60% from the floor in the 2nd half and 56% for the game en route to a 68-42 win. Brennon Stauffenberg went 7-8 from the field and finished with 19 points, Dillan Hereford had 18 and he was 8-8 from the floor. Bryan St. Clair was in double figures as well with 10.
In the 3A semi-finals, Lander drew Worland and in a game with 42 combined points in the 4th quarter, the Tigers dropped a 64-54 decision. Hereford was sharp with 20 and St. Clair was sharp with 19 but Lander was just 3-16 from the three-point line.
In the 3rd/4th place game, Lander did lose to Buffalo 62-52 in a game where they trailed by as many as 21 points. Jonas Calvert led the way with 14 and St. Clair had 11. Lander had a couple of all-state selections in St. Clair and Hereford. St. Clair is a dynamic player and averaged 17 points a game. Hereford threw in 16 per contest. Calvert and Tisso Guina were named all-conference.
Hereford, St. Clair, and Calvert were seniors so there will be some re-tooling in Lander in 2020-21.
