New WyoPreps Girls Basketball Poll Has Movement in All Four Classes
After the first games of the season, changes were anticipated in the second WyoPreps Coaches and Media Girls Basketball Poll.
While the four top-ranked teams did stay the same, there is movement in each classification, and two new teams in the rankings.
Class 3A and Class 2A each had one team fall out of the top five.
The Lyman Eagles held the top spot in 3A. They received 14 first-place votes in the second poll. Douglas remained in second, and the Bearcats earned the other five first-place votes. Mountain View moved up two spots to third in the new rankings. After a 3-0 start last weekend, the Pinedale Wranglers have jumped into the poll at No. 4. Lander fell two spots in the poll down to fifth. Newcastle fell out of the top five.
In 2A, three-time defending champion Wyoming Indian is a near-unanimous No. 1. The Lady Chiefs got 12 of the 13 first-place votes in the new poll. Moorcroft moved up two positions to second. The Wolves are only six points ahead of Sundance. The Bulldogs jump up two spots. Rocky Mountain fell from second to fourth. The other change is Glenrock enters the rankings at No. 5. The Herders are off to a 2-1 start. Pine Bluffs dropped out of the poll.
Class 4A has a shift in the bottom four spots. Cheyenne East remained first. The Thunderbirds received 17 of the 19 votes for first place. The other two votes for the top spot went to Cody. The Fillies are now second in the rankings. Natrona County moves into the third spot. Sheridan broke the tie for fifth from the preseason poll, and the Broncs are now fourth. Thunder Basin fell from second to fifth in the new poll.
Two teams just swapped spots in the new Class 1A rankings. Cokeville is still on top. The Panthers are just 12 points ahead of Upton in the voting. Cokeville got six of the 13 first-place votes. The Bobcats remain second, and they earned four first-place votes. Southeast jumped up two spots to third after a 3-1 start last weekend. Little Snake River stayed put at No. 4. Kaycee, who did not play last week due to the weather and road conditions, fell from third to fifth.
