Newcastle Punches Ticket for 2A Postseason

When Newcastle played host to Torrington on Friday, both teams had high hopes for the playoffs. One team wins and they're in, the other team loses and they're out of the picture. Newcastle prevailed in this de-facto play-in game 39-14 to get the #4 seed from the 2A East. That will put the Dogies on the road in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs against #1 Lovell. Newcastle ended up winning 2 of the last 3 games after starting the season 1-3 so that's quite a turnaround to get to 4-4. They'll make their first postseason appearance since 2017.

Torrington will finish the year at 3-6 on the year and prior to this season, the Blazers were in the playoffs 8 times in 9 years. Torrington at one point was 1-5 but posted back-to-back shutouts heading into the Newcastle contest.
