The Powell Panthers plan on being a factor in 3A football this season and started out with a 42-24 win over Riverton in a week zero game in Fremont County, Powell has a few players that helped their Legion Baseball team win the 'A' State Championship so the ability is there.

Powell found the end zone twice in the 1st quarter with a 43-yard run from Cody Seifert and and 42-yard gallop from Jhett Schwan. Riverton answered with a touchdown connection from Darrick Devries to Nick McIntosh so it was 14-7 after one-quarter of play.

Powell put 14 points on the board in the 2nd quarter as Schwan threw touchdown passes to Dawson Griffin and Zane Graft for 44 and 4 yards respectively. The Panthers led 28-10 at halftime and added to the lead as Seifert scored his 2nd TD of the game in the 3rd quarter.

Riverton got a couple of touchdown passes in the 4th quarter, as McIntosh grabbed his 2nd of the game and Jordan May caught the other. Powell ended the scoring with a 12-yard run to the end zone from Keona Wisnewski. The Panthers will host Worland this week and the Wolverines will be at home to meet Cody.
