The Rawlins Outlaws ended up taking first place at the 3A East regional volleyball tournament over the weekend and a #1 seed heading into this week's state tournament in Casper. Rawlins was the state runner up a year ago and came up with a couple of sweeps on the first day of the regional tournament, beating Newcastle and Burns. The Outlaws defeated Douglas 3 games to one to win the regional title and improve to 34-5 on the season. Rawlins will play Mountain View in the opening round of the state tournament on Thursday at the Events. Douglas took the #2 seed and Torrington surprised some observers with a remarkable run at regionals to take 3rd. The Blazers won 2 elimination matches on Saturday, beating Wheatland and Burns. On top of that, Torrington defeated Buffalo in the 3rd place match. So Douglas plays Lander in the first round at state, Torrington draws Pinedale in round one. Buffalo meets Worland in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
